As fans prepare to enter Phase Three in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), all movies and TV series are set to pave the way for the highly-anticipated "The Avengers: Infinity War." But it seems that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is in a league of its own as Thanos (Josh Brolin) is not expected to take part in the film.
"Thanos isn't in this movie. I think he's gonna have a little bit to do and say when it comes to certain wars and infinity. We've got other fish to fry in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'. We're not really so much about the Infinity Stones in 'Guardians 2,'" Gunn said.
Thanos played an essential role in "Guardians of the Galaxy." He was the one who ordered Ronan the Accuser to go after the Power Stone and fight Star Lord (Chris Pratt). His absence in the second film has upset fans that were pining to explore the Infinity Stones even more.
Blastr hints that the principal baddie in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" could be the formidable Ego, The Loving Planet.
At this point, Thanos still doesn't have all sixth Infinity Stones that he will need to provoke the "Infinity War."
In a previous interview, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed that Doctor Strange will be facing the personification of Death in Phase Three of the MCU. In the comic books, Death embodies destruction. Being a fundamental force, she takes on a physical form only so as to interact with physical entities.
Her most well-known interaction was with Thanos, who fell in love with her. He impressed her by collecting as many souls as he can, which is one of the reasons why he is so hell-bent on eliminating entire species and planets using the Infinity Stones.
Doctor Strange is one of the few beings who can enter the Realm of Death, whom he defeats by merging with the spirit of Eternity. His victory over Death also meant that can no longer age.
It has been confirmed that a fifth Infinity Stone will appear in the "Doctor Strange" movie, slated for release in November this year. The Sorcerer Supreme's "Eye of Agamotto" holds the coveted Time Stone that will allow him to manipulate possibilities, as noted by Movie News Guide.
With this Thanos links, perhaps "Doctor Strange" will tell fans more about the mad titan and his quest to acquire all the Infinity Stones.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2017.
