Moto G (2nd Gen) Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Now Rolling Out In India

By

Weeks after Motorola beta tested Android 6.0 Marshmallow in India and Brazil, it has started rolling out the operating system firmware to Moto G (2nd Gen) devices in the second largest market via OTA.

According to International Business Times, the Moto G (2nd Gen) handsets that obtained the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in January 2015 will no longer receive the Android 5.1 update and will directly jump to Marshmallow instead. The Android 6.0 firmware arrives through over-the-air (OTA) as v24.41.34 and it needs a storage capacity of 464.2MB to be downloaded. The new OS will be available for both the 3G and LTE-enabled variants of Moto G (2nd Gen).

Motorola already confirmed the roll out of the firmware as the company posted the Marshmallow update release notes for the Moto G (2nd Gen) on its India support website. This happened after David Schuster, Motorola's senior director of software product management, had affirmed through his Google+ page that the Marshmallow update is already in the testing phase.

Users can check the detailed change log of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow through the Motorola India support page. But for reference, Android Police cited the new features and the enhancements the software update brings. Upon updating to Android 6.0 the users of Moto G (2nd Gen) will notice the new app permissions, app standby and doze mode. Owners of the device could also see the Direct Share feature, the Now on Tap, and the ability to adopt SD cards as internal storage. The Android Marshmallow also removes the Motorola Migrate and Motorola Alert, but improves Motorola Assist.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is an over-the-air update so users will be notified once it reaches their smartphones. Nevertheless, Phones Review advised the users who will not receive any notification to check for the update manually. They just have to go to Settings, tap About Phone, then System Updates.

Additionally, users of Moto G (2nd Gen) should keep in mind that since the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is through over-the-air, it is much expected to roll out in batches.
