Apple's geeks are at it again as they putting their heads down the drawing board as the giant company is now working its way into virtual and augmented reality technology. Experts strongly believe that this will replace the iPhone.
To stabilize this claim, Apple is now currently hiring employees that will fit the job description. Doug Bowman, a researcher who studies human-computer interaction and 3D interface is now on the job, his expertise will be needed for developing the VR headsets. They also acquired Nick Thompson, who worked with Microsoft augmented reality headset, the HoloLens.
According to Tech Insider, to further develop the VR headset concept, Apple has purchased several companies which in turn help the VR's success. Current acquisitions are, Metaio, a German company that created an app which envisions digital furniture. FaceShift, the one that created 3D face transformation in real time. FlyBy Media, a company that worked with Google on computer vision. A concept closely integrated with augmented and virtual reality and PrimeSense that made cameras and video sensor hardware's.
Several products are now available in the market for consumers to experience virtual reality. Products like Viewmaster, Google's HoloLens and the infamous Google cardboard. All these products need to be integrated into another device for it to function. Apple, however, is crossing a different path as it plans to create a virtual reality device that can function without the help of a computer or a smartphone as reported by The Business Insider.
According to data, there has been a decline in the sales of iPhone's in the market recently. With the increase competition in the mobile industry, this is inevitable. That is why experts are speculating that within the next 15 years, the generation z won't see an iPhone anymore. Instead, they will experience a totally different world with the help using augmented or virtual reality with Apple's VR headsets.
