Rapper Pleads No Contest to DUI Charge, Admits to Marijuana Intake

By

William Jonathan Drayton Jr. pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor driving under the influence case charged against him in Las Vegas. Drayton, commonly called Flavor Flav, has previously been involved in a similar charge in Nevada making this his second plea in two weeks.

Last May, he was stopped by police and asked if he had recently taken in drugs. The 56-year-old entertainer acknowledged this and admitted to having marijuana residue in his system. A more recent incident was his arrest in August. Flavor Flav was found asleep on the front seat of a vehicle parked on the side of a road in Henderson. He also pleaded no contest to having marijuana metabolite in his system.

With his plea, the Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum has given Drayton a fine of $685, a similar amount he was fined in Henderson. He was also ordered by the judge to attend a victim impact panel as well as a drunken driving school so his plea requirements could be satisfied under the two cases filed against him.

Back in May 21st, Drayton was stopped by the Nevada Highway Patrol for speeding not far from the McCarran International Airport. As part of his plea, the misdemeanor speeding and open container charges filed against him were dropped. On a separate case, the entertainer was given a fine over $3,600 after he pleaded guilty in October to a count of unlicensed aggravated operation of a motor vehicle. This came from a January 2014 arrest when he raced to Long Island to attend his mother's funeral. A more serious felony charge against him was resolved in August 2014 when he admitted to wielding a kitchen knife during a heated argument with his girlfriend's 17-year-old son back in October 2012. During the hearing, Drayton pleaded guilty to reduced misdemeanor battery charges. The case was resolved by a judge when Drayton completed the domestic violence course required from him.

Drayton is a rapper and reality TV star who resides in Las Vegas.
