Dead ISIS commander's wife charged with conspiracy; Mueller's famiy still awaits justice

By

A wife of a dead ISIS commander was filed with conspiracy case at the US Justice Department. The lawsuit alleged that she was used as an instrument by the ISIS leading to the death of the 26-year-old aid US worker, Kayla Mueller.

But US officials clarified that Umm Sayyaf will not likely be charged in a US court. They said that the case filed is a sort of insurance in case the Iraqi officials fail to charge her or she escapes in prison.

Although the case has been filed, the uncertainties of Muellers death is still unclear. The terrorist group had clarified that her death was caused by an air attack by the Jordanian forces last February 2015. In the case, Nasrin As'ad Ibrahim, Umm Sayyaf's real name knew that her husband Abu Sayyaf held the American girl together with two Kurdish women as a sex slave in their home.

The widow is now in the hands of the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq. Her capture was brought about by the raid of the US forces in Syria while her husband was killed during the encounter. But because of the deferred Iraqi law, the Obama administration is forced to hand her down to their authorities. US officials expected a quick resolution to the case but nine months in, there is still no case filed against Umm Sayyaf.

Despite the delay, Marc Raimondi, a spokesperson for the US Justice Department still believes in the Iraqi justice system. He added that they are not taking their shields down as they are committed to protect any citizen of the United States against harm. Since the US and Iraq don't have a treaty regarding captured Iraqi citizens, Iraq still maintains a constitutional prohibition regarding surrendering Iraqi citizen to foreign authorities.

It will be just days away before the anniversary of Mueller's death. In a report, her family revealed that they filed the case against Umm Sayyaf even before it went public.
