Sony has released software binaries for quite a few devices of custom ROM developers to experiment with Marshmallow and Xperia E3 is one of the lucky devices. The phone is expecting the Marshmallow custom ROM in a couple of weeks.
Sony Xperia E3 is one of the lucky devices that the Japanese giant revealed to have release software binaries for custom ROMs developers to explore. This means that if the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow build will come within this quarter, a custom ROM can be released to the device very soon.
The device has not been included in Sony's Marshmallow priority list. However, it was not as unfortunate as Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra which were already announced disqualified for Marshmallow.
Last year, a group of Xperia Z1 Compact owners created a petition for Sony to release Marshmallow to the device. Currently, it has 6,000 people who signed up but the company has not yet responded to the cause.
Meanwhile, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to come in with a lot of surprises like Doze, Now on Tap, improved Android Pay, direct share and simpler volume controls.
§ Doze. This new feature controls phone activity and puts into a deep sleep when idle to save up power.
§ Now on Tap. Google Now gets better function through Now on Tap. By press holding the home button, Now on Tap will pop up with suggestions based on recent and present status or activity.
§ Android Pay. By just a simple tap, bring up Android Pay and make purchases without the need to launch another app.
§ Direct share. Share photos, links, news, files, etc. with selected contacts with ease and quickness.
§ Simpler volume controls. Control ringtone and media volume spontaneously.
Sony has been lauded in the past weeks for the stunning performance of its concept for Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
