Sony Xperia Z Ultra can now possibly get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow as the company released software binaries of Marshmallow for Android Open Source Project (AOSP). In weeks' time, a custom ROM can be developed and be made available to the device.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra has been confirmed disqualified to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade. Nevertheless, as there are many hopefuls for the device to get it, a custom ROM based on Marshmallow now rings a bell. Despite Xperia Z Ultra's exclusion from the official Marshmallow list of Sony, the device was lucky enough to be included in the AOSP for Marshmallow.
In the Japanese website (via Google Translate) of Sony, Marshmallow is poised to bring stability improvements for the camera, updates for Adreno, ril and second ril as well as sensor fixes. For devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8994 platform, there are also additional updates to sensors, including GPS, and basic implementation of the front-facing camera.
Other devices with software binaries released for Marshmallow AOSP are the following:
1. Sony Xperia Z5
2. Sony Xperia Z3+
4. Sony Xperia Z3
5. Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
6. Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
7. Sony Xperia Z2
8. Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet
9. Sony Xperia Z1
10. Sony Xperia Z1 Compact
11. Sony Xperia E3
12. Sony Xperia M2
13. Sony Xperia T2 Ultra

Android 6.0 Marshmallow meanwhile could also be available to these device soon through a custom ROM. A custom ROM is an unofficial version of a software crafted by independent developers. It poses threats of device malfunction if not installed right, the reason why developers always remind device owners to download the software at their own risk.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will offer key features and enhancements for app permissions, Google Now, fingerprint support, Android Pay, Doze and redesigned app drawer.
