What do fans get when "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke and "Hunger Games" alumnus Sam Claflin are equally brought together? A match made in heaven in the figure of Louisa Clark and William Traynor, the pair that will melt the viewers' hearts in the upcoming movie adaptation of Jojo Moyes' best-selling love story "Me Before You."
The "Me Before You" trailer came out on Wednesday, Feb. 3, prompting tears and squeals from fans and new converts alike.
The trailer gives a refreshing view of Emilia Clarke outside her famed Daenerys Targaryen persona. In the first part of the trailer, she appears as the weirdly lovable girl from a quaint English town who's struggling to get a job. She dons braided pig tails and is clad in colorful cardigans -a stark deviation from the rather somber Mother of Dragons the fans have seen her play in the HBO series "Game of Thrones."
A smiling Emilia Clarke on screen is quite a rarity, but fans will be filled to the brim with her smile in this film.
"Literally, Daenerys doesn't smile, Sarah Connor doesn't smile," Clarke said in an interview. "But here it was like, 'Can you smile more? Can you have a good time?' I'm not trying to kill anyone, no one is trying to kill me. It's fun."
Clarke reportedly read book version of "Me Before You" on the set of "Terminator Genisys," the Sydney Morning Herald noted.
Emilia Clarke's Louisa later secures a job as a caretaker for a quadriplegic. While in plain view the job description doesn't appear piquant, her employment gets a little brighter when she realizes she's to take care for Sam Claflin's William Traynor, a successful 30-year-old who met a life-changing accident.
Sam Claflin gained mainstream popularity when he portrayed the hot District 4 victor Finnick Odair in "The Hunger Games" movie franchise. In "Me Before You", Claflin is kept from any physical activities.
"Sam literally plays the part with no movement below the neck. All he had really was facial movements," director Thea Sharrock said. "That was a challenge."
Things start out on a rough patch for the Louisa and William, with Traynor having a rather angered and stoic disposition in life.
"He hates me. ... Every time he looks at me, he looks at me like I'm stupid," Clark said in a particular scene, as noted by US Magazine.
But when Ed Sheeran's heart-warming "Photograph" cues in, viewers are treated to a tale of two adorable people falling in love.
"Me Before You" features a solid cast of British actors which includes Matthew Lewis ("Harry Potter"), Jenna Coleman ("Doctor Who"), Charles Dance ("Game Of Thrones") and Brendan Coyle ("Downton Abbey").
"Me Before You" will premiere in theatres on Jun. 3.
