‘Battlefield 5’ updates: Job listing hints at revolutionary FPS technology; sequel to be set in Asia?

By

Those looking to work in the thriving gaming industry are in for a treat as development studio, EA Digital Illusions CE or DICE, is currently looking for new staff members. Interestingly though, one of those job openings could be related to the sequel from the "Battlefield" series.

As posted in the company's careers page, DICE is currently looking for a senior technical animator to work in its Los Angeles office. The chosen candidate for this position will then be tasked to developed innovative technology.

Although DICE did not specifically state which projects the senior technical animator will work on, Gaming Bolt pointed out that the first project tied to the position would be a main or AAA game. This led the gaming news site to speculate that the project could be "Battlefield 5" since it is part of the company's flagship series.

In addition, taking in consideration the duties and requirements for the position, DICE might be looking to deliver "Battlefield 5" with revolutionary animation and gameplay features. Since its series is a first-person shooter, the upcoming title might even introduce a new interface for this genre.

As for other rumors about the game, a recent report by Gamepur suggested that "Battlefield 5" could take place in either Japan or Vietnam. Since the franchise is known to feature environments based on historical battles, setting the game in Japan will probably not come as a total surprise for gamers given the country's involvement in World War II.

The same can also be said about Vietnam, which also served as the setting for previous "Battlefield" titles. In fact, DICE even released an expansion pack for 2010's "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" that features the Vietnam War.

Of course, without a direct confirmation from DICE, these details should only be taken with a grain of salt. It is not yet clear if "Battlefield 5" will be set in Asia or if it will significantly change the entire FPS genre.

As for its release, a specific launch date for "Battlefield 5" has not yet been revealed, but the game is expected to come out sometime this year. It will probably debut for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 systems.
