Pokémon GO Updates: Fans Speculate on Release Date; Game Dev Shares Game Mechanics, Possible Nintendo NX Release

By

With the approaching 20th anniversary of The Pokémon Company, fans speculated that the augmented reality game Pokémon GO will be release as part of the celebration. Game developer shares game mechanics of the title and the possibility of publishing the AR game to Nintendo NX.

A Latin Post report notes that Nintendo Entertainment might release the widely awaited Pokémon Go on February 27, the anniversary date of The Pokémon Company. The tip-offs surfaced following reports that the augmented reality game will be available in early 2016 as Niantic's Ingress Anomaly will also happen on the said date. Niantic is one of the co-developers of Pokémon GO.

Neurogadget mentioned that February 27 is the most plausible debut date of Pokémon Go, the same date the original Pokémon games were launched in Japan twenty years ago. It was also reported that the game will be ready this 2016. Another clue that fueled the speculations is how Game Freak Junichi Masuda talked about Pokémon Go when discussing the anniversary.

Meanwhile, Niantic CEO John Hanke explained that Pokémon GO has the same mechanics as Ingress, wrote Movie Pilot. Pokémon GO happens to reward players on the extent of their interactions with the outside world, how far they explore and what places they uncover.

"Pokémon GO contains that same mechanic [as Ingress] of encouraging people to take a walk in the park and see some aspect of their city they haven't seen before, to go explore a nook or cranny in a part of the city they haven't been to before so they can get a new Pokémon, that will be at work," Hanke as quoted by the site.

With this dynamic, Movie Pilot concludes that Pokémon Go will not be possible to be available for Nintendo NX since NX is a home console. Players will not be roving down the street with their PS4 and Xbox Ones to play Pokémon Go.

At this time, speculations on release date of Pokémon Go are all fans have to hold in the lack of anything officials. Pokémon GO is an upcoming augmented reality game for mobile phones developed by Niantic, scheduled to be released for iOS and Android devices.
