‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Spoilers: Scoot McNairy’s character revealed; Jeremy Irons discusses new role as Alfred the butler

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' is the sequel to 2013's 'Man of Steel'. Scoot McNairy's role is revealed unofficially and trumps rumors of him being The Flash or a reincarnation of Jimmy Olsen. Jeremy Irons talked about his new role as Alfred the butler.

According to We Got This Covered, McNairy's role has been heavily speculated as of late. It was first rumored that he may be playing The Flash since he was seen with green leggings on the filming set. This meant that his leg could be digitalized or enhanced with the use of special effects.

However, a newer report stated that McNairy would be playing the role of Jimmy Olsen, investigative reporter from the Daily Planet and Superman's friend. In the original DC comic books, the character does not have superpowers of his own but he is frequently put into situations where he develops strange superhuman abilities.

Meanwhile, according to an article from Cinema Blend, it is possible that McNairy is neither The Flash nor Jimmy. Latino Review's sources unofficially revealed that the 38-year old actor is poised to be one of Lex Luthor's weapons against defeating Superman. His character is an amputee who becomes a witness to testify against Superman and the destruction the hero has caused.

Not only is McNairy's yet unnamed character a threat to put Superman in bad graces with the government, he is also said to be a suicide bomber enlisted by Luthor.

McNairy is one of the latest cast members to join Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot in the sequel to 'Man of Steel'. Amy Adams, Lauren Cohan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jason Momoa, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg and Laurence Fishburne also make up the stellar line-up.

Jeremy Irons was also cast to play Batman's trusted companion and butler Alfred. According to Moviepilot, Irons' reimagining will be different from Michael Caine's in 'The Dark Knight' trilogy. The Golden Globe awardee explained that his Alfred will play an important role in the life of Batman.

He said, "I knew we would be finding a different angle on Alfred, so I thought of him as my own. Alfred has lived longer than Bruce, and so perhaps has a clearer perspective on life. As well as having been in loco parentis to Bruce, his only remit in life is to protect him. And, as those of us who have raised children, let alone Batmen, will know that is quite a wide remit."

'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' is an upcoming sequel to 2013's 'Man of Steel'. It is directed by Zack Snyder based on a screenplay by Chris Terrio and David Goyer. It is scheduled to be released on March 25, 2016 and is intended as the second installment in the DC shared universe.
