Daredevil season 2: Elektra, Punisher, and the Defenders storm Hell's Kitchen

By

Two more anti-heroes will be joining Daredevil's fight for justice in Hell's Kitchen, and they might be finding themselves at odds with the Man in Black's no-kill policy. The Punisher is a gun-toting vigilante who is not afraid to take the law in his own hands, while Elektra is a mercenary who abides by her own code of right and wrong. Still, by the end of the season, Daredevil may find himself not alone, as the showrunners promise that this season will be a lead-in to a new superhero team-up known as the Defenders.

In an interview published by Den of Geek, "Daredevil's" showrunners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, describe the new characters that will be making their mark in Hell's Kitchen. The Punisher, played by Jon Benthal, will find audiences rooting for him and his cause, even his willingness to take a life if it means pushing the cause of justice. Elektra, played by Elodie Yung, is not afraid to push boundaries either. The police, who are tasked to bring law and order to the streets, will find their hands full. So will Daredevil.

It would be interesting to see how the showrunners will adapt the comics' backstory to the small screen. In the Marvel Universe, the Punisher is an ex-Marine who becomes a lone warrior meting out lethal justice when his family is killed by the mob. Elektra has a more interesting and complicated history with Matt Murdock. The two met in college, fell in love, parted ways, and reunited only to find themselves on opposite sides of vigilante work.

With Kingpin still very much in the picture, expect more fight scenes to spark up the screen once these three characters get together, according to IGN. Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, has already teased that the upcoming combat scenes in season two will rival those in season 1, especially the famous fight when the Man in Black took out a dozen mobsters holding a young boy hostage.

it looks like that other Marvel characters - this time, heroes - will be joining the fray. In a Cinema Blend report, there are plans to put Daredevil along with fellow vigilantes Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in a new show; Jones and Cage already appear in another Netflix critically acclaimed superhero series, "Jessica Jones." Iron Fist is touted to be the fourth member of the team.

Still, as the showrunners said in Den of Geek, the focus of "Daredevil" will always be on Matt Murdock and his quest to restore justice in Hell's Kitchen. Fans shouldn't be worried about his being overshadowed by new characters coming in and out. "Daredevil" is first and foremost Murdock's story.

"Daredevil's" second season will open in Netflix on March 18.
