It's always common sense to ask for an individual's permission before you borrow something he owns. For Sofia Vergara, this is something she wants the owners behind beauty brand, Venus Concept, to understand. Apparently, the brand has featured the 43-year-old actress on their ads and promotional material without getting her prior approval. The actress has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles on Monday citing that the company has been using her name and image to promote their Legacy skin tightening massage treatment.
Back in August 2014, Vergara took a selfie and posted this on her WhoSay account. Below the photo, the Modern Family actress mentioned the product in the caption as she was preparing for the Emmys. The actress wrote "What is so funny Marilyn?? Legacy massage at @drlancerrx." She referred to a background photo of Marilyn Monroe on her selfie.
On the lawsuit, Vergara claimed that she did not like the treatment offered to her. She claimed that it was a waste of time and money and did not offer the results it promised. Because of her bad experience with the product, the actress claims that she will not use the product again and "certainly would not" agree to endorse or appear in an international advertisement campaign to make people think that she uses the product. As such, Vergara does not recommend the beauty brand or any of its products or services despite their blatant use of blown-up photos of her face displayed on their trade shows, exhibition booths, and website.
While Vergara has been vocal about how the company has used her previous social media post without her permission, she does have her string of endorsements such as CoverGirl and Head & Shoulders. A source shared on Us Magazine that Vergara prides herself on "believing in" the products she sells and genuinely talks about. The source also shares that with Venus Concept, Vergara feels like it is a slap to her face and image to show support on something she does not even like. She also feels like she is cheating her fans.
Vergara has allegedly been battling with Venus Concept for over a year now. With this latest lawsuit, Vergara is reportedly seeking $15 million from the company.
