Sofia Vergara files $15M lawsuit against Venus Concept: Details

By

Actress Sofia Vergara recently filed a $15 million lawsuit before the Los Angeles Superior Court against Venus Concept for allegedly illegally using her name and likeness in promoting their products without her consent.

As reported by Mail Online, Vergara filed a lawsuit against the company which allegedly claimed to have her endorsement in several promotional materials situated around the world. She first came across the company after she received a 'skin tightening' massage in August 2014 for her preparation for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Vergara referenced the service in a WhoSay photo of her while a woman was working on her back side. "What is so funny Marilyn?? Legacy massage at @drlancerrx", Vergara captioned. Her photo earned 40,000 likes.

However, after the massage, the actress did not make an endorsement of the company and would probably never be, according to the court papers obtained by People.

"[Vergara] would not use it again and certainly would not endorse it nor agree to appear in an international advertisement campaign to promote it," the document stated. It also concluded that she "does not recommend the Venus Legacy product or services."

A source also confirmed to US Magazine that Vergara is careful with the products she endorses and genuinely believes in them. "Sofía personally prides herself on believing in what she sells and she talks about it genuinely", the source said. "For someone to just slap her face and image on something that she doesn't even like, she just feels like she's cheating her fans."

The lawsuit is not Vergara's first move to warn the company about the use of her name as she has been trying to get Venus Concept's attention for a year now.

Sofia Vergara is currently endorsing Rooms to Go, Head & Shoulders, and CoverGirl. Venus Concept has not released their statement as of yet pertaining to the lawsuit.
