Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is set to begin production next month and new characters are rumored to join the team in the sequel. The cast have also started their preparation as revealed in their social media accounts.

As reported by Blastr, three new characters are rumored to join the team of Gamora, Star Lord, Drax, Rocket Racoon and Groot in their ship. A source reportedly revealed that the sequel will feature Gamora's reunion with her sister, Nebula, and will be joined by Yondu and Mantis.

Actress Pom Klementieff was casted for the role of Mantis, while Karen Gillan is bound to return as Nebula, as well as Michael Rooker as Yondu. According to Screen Rant, plot details are currently unknown, but director James Gunn previously revealed that it will be "a story about fathers" and will be focused on the back story of the characters.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 is also expected to feature the relationship of Star Lord with his father who has not been revealed in the MCU yet. Although it was not officially confirmed whether Thanos will or will not appear in the sequel, another villain rumored to wreak havoc is Ego, The Living Planet.

Moreover, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, the franchise's stars have started their preparation for the movie. Director James Gunn has moved to Atlanta to prepare for the production months ago and as filming date inching closer, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana teased about their return through social media.

On Sunday, Bautista hit the gym and posted a photo of himself flexing his muscles and getting into "Draxmode". Saldana also tweeted a short and mysterious phase "the gang is getting back together," earlier this week.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 filming is set to take place in Pinewood Studios Atlanta. It is written and directed by James Gun, and will feature the return of Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista as Star Lord, Gamora, and Drax, respectively. It will also feature the voices of Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot. It is slated to be released in theaters on May 5, 2017.
