Former NFL quarterback, Vince Young, has been arrested in Austin, Texas, for driving under the influence of alcohol, police reports.

According to Travis County jail records, the 32-year-old former NFL star was taken into custody on Monday, shortly after midnight, and was filed with a misdemeanor charge of drunk driving. A bond was set for $2,000, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Ivan Ramos, a spokesman for Austin police, attested that the sports man was stopped late Sunday night in the northern part of downtown. According to the arrest affidavit, the football star was mumbling and was slurring his speech as he swayed and laughed while walking. Young also had glassy eyes and a pungent odor that emitted the smell of alcohol.

Young was immediately pulled over after a traffic officer saw Young's Chevrolet Silverado drifting and changing speeds right on Interstate 35. According to the arresting officer, the NFL star was uncooperative with the arrest but did show signs of respect. The official charge was a single misdemeanor DWI count. Young was released Monday morning after posting bail.

On Monday morning, Young released a statement of apology regarding his arrest.

"I am very disappointed in myself and I am sorry for any conduct that has made this legal process necessary. I specifically want to apologize to the young men and women who look up to me as a role model and to my employers at the University of Texas and the Longhorn Network," stated Young, as posted by Statesman.com.

Young spent six seasons in the National Football League with the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles after winning a national title in Texas. At the moment, Young works for the University of Texas, where he was the star quarterback, helping in the community and diversity programs.

University officials, through spokesman Gary Susswein, stated an issue on Monday, CBS Local reports. Susswein commented that while they are fully aware of Young's arrest, they are still discussing "any appropriate action," since Young holds a high position in the university.
