James Holmes of Colorado infamous for shooting people at the theater has been moved to another prison. However, officials did provide any reason to the public and the families of the people he killed as to why he was transferred.
The transfer of prison might have sent James Holmes out of state or to a federal jailhouse. According to Yahoo News, this move was part of an exchange agreement with another prison. On Wednesday, Spokeswoman Adrienne Jacobson of Colorado Department of Corrections affirms such news. She said such transfers can happen for a variety of reasons, and revealing the new location of the suspect James Holmes would frustrate the purpose.
Legal expert Scott Robinson told 9News that Holmes was probably being sent to an out-of-state prison. Robinson said that this move indicated that there may have been a significant amount of threat to the shooter's life. The legal expert also added that his presence created too much of a risk.
The information regarding Holmes transfer of prison was also hidden from prosecutors. ABC News reported that a search of on the internet databases in all 50 states and the Bureau of Prisons website failed to provide the data of Holmes's current location.
The secrecy made by the prison officers made the survivors of the shooting frustrated and disappointed. Meanwhile, Corrections officials sent victims, who are scattered across the nation, a notification that Holmes had been transferred to another prison but provided only a few details.
Attorney George Brauchler, the lead prosecutor in the case, said that the system is set up to be so secretive on the back end, where the only focus seems to be the preservation of this James Holmes life above and beyond any concerns of the community and the victims. He also added that Holmes is going to be potentially incarcerated in one of their states, and it is possible that Holmes could escape.
During the span of five months, this has been the third time Holmes was transferred to different prison. On August, he was sentenced to life for killing 12 people and injuring 70 other individuals when he opened fire in a crowded suburban Denver film theater in 2012.
