The Parr family is bound to be back in the big screen more than a decade after they first appeared in 2004. The Incredibles 2 is currently in development and director Brad Bird revealed a few details on the possible direction the sequel is heading.
Although it is still early before the sequel hits theaters in 2019, recent reports about the film point out speculations and fan theories on what could be featured in the film. According to Master Herald, 15 years will have passed when the sequel is released, but the film will only feature a 6-year time jump from the events in the previous movie.
In The Incredibles 2, the youngest member of the family, Jack Jack will be 6 years old and would eventually unleash his powers. Although his attack against Syndrome in the previous film was a positive indication for his super hero future, it is also heavily speculated that he could be the next villain in the sequel.
It is rumored that aside from his shape shifting ability, Jack Jack will also develop other super powers such as floating, shooting lasers, teleporting, turning into a fire, and being bulletproof. However, being unable to control his abilities, he could take the dark side with Syndrome.
Furthermore, as reported by Ecumenical News, director Brad Bird also said that the audience can anticipate a more individualistic focus on the characters. "[In] this movie... you don't have... the kids discovering their powers. That's a wonderful thing to have in a movie and you can't have that in this one, they already know, so you have to move the story ahead", Bird said.
Aside from the Parr family, it is unclear whether the superhero family friend, Frozone, will also be in the sequel. But as reported by Movie News Guide, actor Samuel L. Jackson who voiced Frozone in the first film said that Bird has assured him that Frozone will play a part in the events of the second film.
The Incredibles II is currently being developed and more details about the second movie is expected to be unveiled as it nears its 2019 release date. The sequel was confirmed to hit theaters worldwide in June 21, 2019.
