George Clooney's wife Amal Alamuddin shares why she doesn't consider herself a celebrity

By

International Human Rights Lawyer Amal Alamuddin does not consider herself a celebrity, let alone be tagged as just George Clooney's wife. However, she feels grateful that her fame lets her put global human rights issues under the spotlight.

Alamuddin, who married Clooney in 2014, contends that the added attention brought by her marriage will never be a hindrance to her work. Popsugar further added that she prioritizes seeking justice for prisoners of conscience and those mistakenly accused of crimes.

With this, she is being compared to actress Angelina Jolie, who is a celebrity and a charity worker at the same time. But for Alamuddin, she is nothing like Brad Pitt's wife. She considers herself as someone who is still doing the same job she used to do before marriage.

But then again, she does not see fame as totally distracting. She even thinks that it is wonderful how celebrities choose to use the spotlight they have in raising awareness about certain causes, like what Jolie and other stars do, New Zealand Herald reported.

"If there's more attention paid -- for whatever reason -- to that, then I think that's good. I think there is a certain responsibility that comes with that," she explained further.

Indeed, she has a big responsibility for the fame she gets plus the work she does. Currently, the 37-year-old Oxford University graduate is in the works to get former Maldives president, Mohamed Nasheed, out of prison, according to Huffington Post. Nasheed has been sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment in a mock trial, as what Alamuddin shared.

As for her husband, Clooney said in an interview last year that his wife is "a grown woman with her own career." He thinks that she is doing the right thing for Nasheed and that she has the right reasons for doing it.
