Mission Impossible 6 is in the works and the franchise is to experience new aspects in the production with Christopher McQuarrie's return to the director's seat and of Rebecca Ferguson as the leading lady for the second time around.
As reported by Day Herald, director Christopher McQuarrie's return to direct and write the next installment in the action-packed franchise broke its tradition of hiring a new director in every film. Although he is set to return as director, McQuarrie said that he wants the next film to be different and unique.
"I really want to grow and push myself. I think if you look at the three films I've done - from The Way of the Gun to Jack Reacher to Mission: Impossible - I think it's very clear there's a distinct voice that runs through them, and they're each sort of expanding, in terms of the storytelling and use of technology", McQuarrie said in an interview with /Film via Korea Portal.
McQuarrie also added that he is learning more of the technical side of filmmaking through his previous works and wishes to apply them in the next film. Moreover, while the official list for the cast is still unknown, /Film reported that Rogue Nation's leading lady, Rebecca Ferguson's return has been signed, sealed, and delivered for the film.
Ferguson's return would be another first for the franchise that featured one leading lady to the next. With Ferguson's return, Ethan Hunt and Ilsa Faust's friendship could be explored and it would also be interesting to see how their relationship would pan out eventually.
Plot, casting, release date and other details about the Mission Impossible 6 are currently unavailable as it is still in its early stages of development. But more information about the action franchise are bound to be unveiled as production makes progress.
