'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair' will be the beginning of a new series as producer Mark Gordon admitted the upcoming film will not be a sequel to the 2010 release. They are currently in active development and hope to move into production sometime in the near future.

Gordon revealed during an interview with Collider that the new film will not be a sequel to 2010's 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' despite the new plot set decades after the events of its predecessor. Gordon said that they are currently in active development and hope to start filming very soon. He hinted, "...it's all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from."

According to the A.V. Club, Gordon clarified that the "original characters" will still be taken from C.S. Lewis' Narnia canon and not made up specifically for the film. This meant that the original children from 'The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, will not be making appearances in the upcoming film. The four main protagonists in the original series were William Moseley as Peter, Anna Popplewell as Susan, Skandar Keynes as Edmund and Georgie Henley as Lucy.

Another article by /Film stated that six years have passed since last film in the Narnia cinematic series' release. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader' premiered in theaters on 2010 and was the first film in the franchise that was not co-produced by Disney.

In 2011, it was announced that Walden Media was working on a new adaptation, 'The Magician's Nephew' - the sixth novel in C.S. Lewis' bestselling children's series. Despite this though, the franchise continued to remain on a standstill.

'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair' is a planned reboot of 'The Chronicles of Narnia' cinematic franchise based on the bestselling fantasy series by author C.S. Lewis. The new film is likely based on Lewis' fourth novel and may feature the return of Will Poulter as Eustace Scrubb.
