'Silence' Movie Updates: Martin Scorcese adding finishing touches; Star Adam Driver sets sights on new indie project

2016 is going to be a big year for actor Adam Driver, who's poised to sail on a meteoric rise following his performance as villain Kylo Ren in the monster box office hit "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". This year, he is slated to appear in the upcoming Martin Scorcese film "Silence", and will soon begin filming for an indie movie titled "Paterson".

According to Den of Geek, Driver just recently finished shooting for the highly-anticipated Martin Scorcese film "Silence," in which the 32-year-old actor stars alongside Andrew Garfield ("The Amazing Spiderman") and Liam Neeson ("Taken").

"Silence" is an adaptation of Shusaku Endo's titular book. It tells the story of two Jesuit priests, played by Neeson and Garfield, who are cruelly persecuted during 1638 Japan.

The movie has been receiving several nods to make a world premiere at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. It has also been seen as a strong contender for the 2016 Oscar Awards.

According to Irish America, "Silence" producer Gaston Pavlovich hinted that Scorcese is already halfway through editing the movie, adding the finishing touches for the director's cut. The producer also teased that the movie might have a total runtime of two hours and ten minutes.

"The hope is for the film to premiere at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival," Pavlovich said.

In a previous interview with the Collider, Liam Neeson praised Driver for his acting chops, work ethics and discipline.

"Martin wanted us all to look a bit more gaunt, which [Adam Driver & Andrew Garfield] did as well. I know Adam went to the extreme. He's an ex-marine and when he's given an order, he follows it through. He was like something out of Auschwitz. Martin requires this level of [dedication] and I think it pays off," Neeson shared.

Next on his appearances this year will be in a movie titled "Midnight Special", which also stars Kristen Dunst and Michael Shannon.

After several mainstream titles, fans will also get to see Adam Driver return to familiar territory in "Paterson", which will be helmed by indie film legend Jim Jarmusch.

Deadline reported that Adam Driver has hopped on board the project, which will be produced by Amazon Studios and K5 International. He will star alongside Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani.

According to The Independent, he will play the role of a bus driver who lives a very routinely life. His wife, played Farahani, is more spirited, with dreams and aspirations in constant flux by the minute. The story is reportedly set over the course of a week.

In the meantime, "Silence" is scheduled for release in the second half of the year.
