Vikings Season 4 is set to premiere on February 18, 2016 and avid fans got more excited after the show recently released its trailer which depicted Ragnar's fate. Meanwhile, the fourth installment of the series will introduce new characters.
In the trailer posted on International Business Times, Ragnar, played by Travis Fimmel, sits on his throne and is looking at his people eating their meals together. In the background he narrates about the dangers of power.
"Power, it's dangerous. This, I have always known. Look at what power has given me since I invaded Paris. I found myself thinking, 'What use this power?' You see the problem with power is the more you have, the more others want it. And in my world, power can only be truly be built... with blood."
At the end of the promo, all of the people disappeared, the door opened and a slew of snakes entered and surrounded the king. It is noted that Ragnar was thrown in a pit of snakes by King Aella of Northumbia in the Vikings saga. Season 4 might show how Ragnar really dies.
The trailer also shows Queen Aslaug, played by Alyssa Sutherland, sitting on the throne of Ragnar. But instead of a slew of snakes entering, the last part showed the queen holding a knife and is surrounded by dead bodies.
Ragnar also said he is unsure if he can go to Valhalla as he is injured during the Paris siege. In a post from Inquistr, the only way to enter Valhalla, according to viking lore, is by dying an honorable death, or in other words, death by battle. If Ragnar dies of old age or sickness, it means he never entered Valhalla thus his death is not honorable.
Meanwhile, there will be new characters adding up in season 4 according to Crossmap. Joining the stellar cast this season are Peter Franzén (The Gunman) as "King Harold Finehair," a complex character who seeks to be King of Norway and a potential threat to Ragnar; Jasper Pääkkönen (Jet Trash) as "Halfdan The Black," King Harold's violent younger brother; and Dianne Doan ("Descendants") as "Yidu," a completely different character within the world of the Vikings who fascinates Ragnar.
Vikings Season 4 will premiere on History Channel.
