Nancy Gonzalez, a New York City corrections officer at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly having sex with cop-killer inmate Ronell Wilson.
She was arrested Tuesday morning for sexual abuse, allegedly 8-months pregnant with the convict's child. Ronell Wilson was convicted of the 2003 capital murder of two undercover NYPD detectives in a point-blank execution in Staten Island, according to the Associated Press. Gonzalez is assumed to have been involved with him for several months and is nearly eight months pregnant, according to ABC News.
"I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child... Why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of home," Gonzalez said in a criminal complaint.
Reports have revealed Gonzalez worked the night shift at the detention center and became pregnant with Wilson's child in June. Other inmates noted the inappropriate behavior between the two and had first reported the relationship to prison authorities. Sources told 1010 WINS New York that the pregnancy was part of a plot to help Wilson avoid the death penalty. According to the complaint, Gonzalez and Wilson had a sexual relationship between March and August of last year while she was guarding him.
"She's had a very tragic life," said her attorney, Anthony Rico. "She has long-term issues that affected her life and judgment. These are very serious charges."
Rico did not express whether or not Wilson pressured Gonzalez into a sexual relationship. If convicted, Gonzalez is facing a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
In addition, prosecutors allege that Gonzalez carried on another relationship with a different inmate after breaking things off with Wilson.
"I can't explain it. I know what's to come. I know what is going to be said about me," she said. "I know that for me as a parent, how am I going to explain this to this little boy? Mommy was in the military. Mommy was a C.O. Mommy got wrapped up in ...So how do you explain that?"
