EOS Lip Balms Facing a Lawsuit for Causing Allergies

By

A number of customers have reportedly decided to sue the lip balm brand, EOS. According to these complaints, the much loved spherical lip balm has resulted to blistering and many other adverse reactions. The class-action lawsuit has been filed by Rachael Cronin who alleged that after her first use of the lip balm, her lips felt like "sandpaper". When Cronin decide to reapply the product, it further lead her lips to bleed and have blisters and rashes that wouldn't go away for 10 days. Cronin calls this experience as an awful one.

According to dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, the rashes might have been caused by an allergic reaction. Whenever skin becomes red, itchy or flaky, it could be an indication that there is an allergic reaction brought about by a personal-care product. The doctor also advises that it is best to discontinue using the product and apply an over-the-counter ointment called cortisone twice daily for the next few days. If the rash does not seem to be improving, the doctor recommends to visit a dermatologist for allergy testing.

Unfortunately for EOS, Cronin is not the only one who has complained about the product. For years, there has been a lot of flak about the lip balm brand with many users noticing mold growing on the small containers. And with many others who have complained about getting a rash after using the product, it seems like the issue has not yet been remedied by the company.

The lawsuit was filed by Cronin's lawyer, Mark Geragos, who is asking for corrective advertising when selling the product. The plaintiff is also seeking for damages but has not disclosed the specific amount.

EOS is a California-based company that manufactures tiny lip balms sold in brightly colored and pod-like packaging since 2009. An EOS lip balm sells for $3.29 and varies in flavor such as summer fruit, vanilla mint, and strawberry sorbet. Among the celebrity endorsers of the product include Kim Kardashian, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Christina Aguilera, and many more.
