The successful seven-season run of Sons of Anarchy is not yet over, as a prequel has been confirmed by its creator and producer, Kurt Sutter. Could Brad Pitt play a huge role in this prequel?
According to an interview with the main star of the series, Charlie Hunnam, Sutter is setting his eyes on Brad Pitt to play a young John Teller, the founder of Redwood Orignal and Hunnam's father in the series. In an interview with Men's Journal, Hunnam, who plays Jax Teller in the series. Jax Teller has been the main focus of Sons of Anarchy, and fans of the show, as well as critics, have always compared his looks to Pitt.
"Kurt is trying to get [the prequel] going. Did you read that about Brad Pitt maybe playing my dad? Brad Pitt as John Teller. How awesome would that be?" said Hunnam to Men's Journal, when asked about how his character would avoid reunions since Jax Teller died in the series.
Sutter has revealed beforehand that the prequel will focus on the "First Nine," or the first members of the Sons of Anarchy in the 1960's.
"We can see the roots of the club and I see it as a different show... I don't think it will be as pulpy. I feel it will be a little more, I don't want to say a historical show, but it takes place in the '60s and it's Vietnam, so there's a lot of iconic events happening around it that influence John Teller," said Sutter, as reported by Youth Health Mag.
In an interview with E! News, Sutter did say that he strongly wants the viewers to find out how the club was formed, and that a "one-off" would be enough to do that.
"I never really saw [a spinoff] as a full-on series because when you start doing that, I want to honor this mythology we created and I didn't want to step on it, so I think I like the idea of it being a one-off and perhaps just to establish how the club was formed and let it go at that," said Sutter in a post by E! News.
Another angle that Sutter would like to work on is the Mayan biker gang angle. The Mayans were a known nemesis of the Sons, and an exploration of its angle would make the identities of the characters even stronger.
