Three men were arrested under suspicion of attempted murder after driving a car at South London police officers. Authorities found that the suspects were carrying knives, cannabis, and cash inside the car.
A group of three men were taken into custody after being suspected of attempted murder when they tried to run over police officers in Brixton, South London on Saturday. International Business Times reported that patrolling officers approached the car in Clapham, southwest London, because its occupants displayed suspicious behavior.
The report stated that police officers signaled the driver, a 22-year old, to stop the Citroën C4 car in Plato Road, Lambeth. Instead of stopping, the driver "drove recklessly towards the officers on several occasions while trying to decamp" according to a statement by the London Metropolitan Police. The crime happened at around 7:30 PM in the evening at Brixton.
The Citroën C4 collided with other cars parked in the area. Afterwards, reports say that the driver quickly made an escape on foot. However, authorities in Plato Road quickly caught him as well as the other two men inside the car. One of the three suspects was a teenager, reported Mirror.
Police officers searched the suspects and their car after the arrest. They found that the group were in possession of multiple knives, a small amount of cannabis, and cash amounting to £1,000 as per a report by Evening Standard. The Metropolitan Police said that the cannabis and knives were found on the teenager. Police confiscated the items carried by the suspects.
Thankfully, none of the targeted police officers were injured in the incident. It was reported that the officers were conducting a routine patrol around the area when they were nearly run over by the car. The three suspects were brought to a police station in South London where they will be detained for further investigation.
