'Avengers: Infinity War' directors Joe and Anthony Russo reveal that their films may feature the biggest ensemble of superheroes in the MCU. Joe Russo admitted that it may have 67 main characters.
According to Cosmic Book News, the upcoming two-part installation will feature a massive cast of characters in honor of the greatest battle in the fictional world. Joe Russo, one-half of the filmmaking duo directing the back-to-back films, revealed that many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's greatest superheroes will unite to take on the ultimate supervillain Thanos.
He said, "We have so many characters we're dealing with. We're breaking ground on Avengers: Infinity War. We have a board with 67 characters on it."
His comment came after his brother Anthony mistakenly referred to Hayley Atwell who plays Peggy Carter, as Sharon Carter. Joe came to Anthony's defense when the Russo brothers teased just how many characters play key roles in the new film's plot during a talk at Wizard World New Orleans.
According to another article by Screen Crush, Joe Russo also addressed an inquiry on whether The Guardians would also make an appearance on their new film. He said, "That is another one that we would have to reserve as a surprise, but we will say this: People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you've ever seen, and we're going to honor that concept."
James Gunn, director of 'The Guardians of the Galaxy' cinematic series, previously explained that The Guardians belong in another wholly independent sector of the MCU. Although it is highly unlikely that his sequel 'The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' will make any MCU crossover, it was reported that the superhero team-up may join the upcoming 'Avengers: Infinity War' films since Thanos is a mutual enemy to the other superheroes.
The Russo Brothers also revealed that they will film both part one and part two films entirely on large-scale IMAX format. Cinema Blend reported that the directing duo chose to film in this way to enhance the general movie-going experience.
Joe Russo explained, "I just feel that the thing that distinguishes movies right now is that widescreen format. Why you go out of your house and go to the theater is to have that experience that you can't have in your house."
'Avengers: Infinity War' is an upcoming two-part installment directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. They are intended as new additions to the MCU's Phase Three. It will star Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin among others.
