Arthur Simpson-Kent, the primary suspect in the disappearance and murder of actress Sian Blake and her two sons, is expected to be turned over to British police after his arrest in Ghana on Saturday. A manhunt for the suspect was immediately launched by law enforcers after he left the U.K. following the discovery of Blake and her sons' bodies.
Blake, who provided the voice for the character Yugiri in the 2013 game "Final Fantasy XIV," went missing along with her two sons, Zachary and Amon, aged eight and four respectively, on December 13, 2015, according to Independent. As part of their investigations, police officers questioned Blake's partner, Simpson-Kent, if he has any information regarding the case. However, a few days after talking with the police, Simpson-Kent left the U.K. and travelled to Ghana.
On Jan. 6, 2016, the bodies of the three victims were discovered buried in their London home's garden. According to police reports, the trio died due to head and neck injuries.
Due to the nature of the victims' death and Simpson-Kent's sudden departure, the U.K. police carried out a manhunt on the suspect. As part of their efforts, law enforcers coordinated with Ghana police to locate and arrest Simpson-Kent.
Then, on Saturday, the suspect was arrested by local authorities in the coastal resort Busua in the West African country with the help of tips from citizens. According to eyewitness Idris Assoumana, he had a chance to interact with Simpson-Kent before he was apprehended by law enforcers, The Guardian has learned.
The suspect reportedly told him that he was looking to trade his money including an iPad and a smartphone in exchange for heroin in order to take a fatal overdose. However, before he was able to do so, Ghana authorities were notified of his location which immediately led to his arrest.
On Jan. 10, Telegraph reported that the British government has already filed a formal request for the extradition of Simspons-Kent back to the UK for further investigations regarding the case. The suspect is expected arrive in the country within the next few days.
