'Suicide Squad' actress Margot Robbie admitted that she thought her character Harley Quinn was "creepy and violent" and revealed that she loved playing a role she could never be in real life. She also revealed that she loved working with 'Focus' co-star Will Smith for the second time.
According to the Independent, Robbie will be playing one of the most iconic villains in DC's Batman franchise in the upcoming live-action adaptation. She revealed, "Harley is creepy, violent, crazy - all of the things that I aspire to be... It's the fun of living vicariously through someone who is doing things that I would never do in real life."
Her character was first introduced in 'Batman: The Animated Series' as a humorous female sidekick to Joker. The graphic novel 'The Batman Adventures: Mad Love' told Harley's origin story - from Arkham Asylum psychiatrist assigned to Joker's case, to unwittingly falling in love with the psychopath, and to becoming his devoted and ever loyal little accomplice.
The Vine reported that Robbie's Harley may most likely take up most of the new film's screen time as she is continuously up-and-center in most marketing and promotional materials. It was rumored that Robbie is entangled in a complex love triangle with Will Smith's Deadshot and Jared Leto's Joker.
The upcoming anti-hero film will be the second time Robbie and Smith collaborated on the same film. They worked together in 2015's dark comedy-thriller film 'Focus' directed by Glenn Ficara and John Requa.
As revealed by Den of Geek, Robbie expressed her excitement over working with Smith again admitting that she took to "peer-pressuring him" to sign on to DC's new film when they were still under negotiations with the studio. She said, "He obviously signed on for his own reasons, but I was so incredibly happy that we got to do round two".
'Suicide Squad' is an upcoming action film based on the DC Comics anti-hero team of the same name. It is intended as the third installment in the DC shared universe and is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016. It is currently in post-production.
