Chris Gayle seeks legal action against Fairfax Media; Cricket player denies alleged dressing room incident

Chris Gayle recently took legal actions against a newspaper that linked the cricket player to a dressing incident which allegedly took place last year in Australia. Gayle's management also released a stated that the he strongly denied claims pointed at him.

According to Yahoo News, Gayle sought legal action against the Fairfax Media Newspapers that reported about the alleged incident last year during the ICC World Cup in Sydney. In a statement issued by Gayle's management, the player strongly denied the allegations.

"Chris Gayle has strongly denied allegations first published by Fairfax Media that he indecently exposed himself to woman during last years World Cup in Sydney. Despite such denials, Fairfax Media continues to publish the false and defamatory allegations which have received widespread re-publication in media throughout the world", the statement read.

"As a result Chris Gayle has retained Mark O'Brien, a leading Australian media lawyer to immediately commence defamation proceedings against Fairfax Media", it continued.

As reported by The Australian, the newspaper published a report stating that Gayle exposed himself to a female ICC employee during training session at the World Cup. Cricket Australia is also reportedly angry that the player is expected to be excluded in the Big Bash next year.

Gayle was also recently fined A$10,000 (HK$58,100) for making inappropriate comments during a live TV interview with Mel McLaughlin. According to South China Morning Post, the cricket player made inappropriate advances to the reporter and suggested that they should go out for a drink eventually adding "don't blush, baby" during a pause in the interview.

Gayle's lawyer, Mr. Mark O'Brien is not unfamiliar with the newspaper company as he previously defended the Fairfax media against a defamation case last year. The newspaper company is yet to make a statement on the matter.
