Series director Cary Fukunaga confirms that he is not going to be a part of "True Detective" Season 3. That said, HBO president Michael Lombardo encouraged creator Nic Pizzolatto to still push through for another season while Idris Elba praised Fukunaga as a director.
Director Cary Fukunaga discussed with Digital Spy about his real reason why he's not going to be a part of the production of "True Detective" Season 3. Fukunaga stated, "I had never planned on doing season 2. I don't even think I realized how much work season 1 would be. But I try not to do the same thing twice. And I definitely would never have done 2 seasons of the same show.
That's far too big of a commitment. After season 1 was done, I was very happy to move on, back to feature film and a completely different world to immerse myself in. And whatever I do next, hopefully, will feel just as different as anything I've ever done before."
Despite Cary Fukunaga's exit, HBO president Michael Lombardo pushed series creator Nic Pizzolatto to redeem the show for a 3rd season. As reported on Movie News Guide, Lombardo encouraged Nic to push through for a new "True Detective" season and improve his strategies to bring a fantastic show for the fans.
Meanwhile, "Beast of No Nation" star Idris Elba shared some positive remarks about director Cary during a recent interview with The Huffington Post. Fukunaga also happens to be the director of the said show. Elba stated how smart, passionate, and collaborative Fukunaga was and how he helps his actors build up their characters as an actor.
As of now, no official scheduled launch for "True Detective" Season 3 has been released. However, speculations suggest that the show will premiere anytime soon in winter or spring 2017. "True Detective" is an American anthology crime drama TV series written and created by Nic Pizzolatto.
