LG G4 Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update on Sprint

By

Sprint rolled out the official over-the-air (OTA) update of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to its versions of LG G4 smartphones. The mobile carrier is the first in the United States to release the biggest update in Android's history.

LG G4 units of Sprint, with model number LS991ZV9, are now live receiving in stages the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, bringing all the native features it developed on top of Google's new set. The roll out just arrived in the nick of time, as it was previously reported to come in between December 16-18.

Looking back in the previous weeks, Sprint had been silent about its Marshmallow plans unlike the other carrier that were teasing and revealing some hints of the new build. G4 units of Sprint are the first in the US to receive the official Marshmallow update. Internationally, the device was first updated with Marshmallow in Poland, normally the launching ground of Android updates, followed by several European countries.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings Sprint's very own Global Roaming feature which allows G4 owners to use the device even when out of the country. Marshmallow also comes with the new and updated features in battery management, connectivity, user interface, apps, controls and security, among other aspects.

Google developers have devised an innovative way to wisely control battery consumption. A power saving feature called Doze will automatically put the phone at rest when sensed idle. Even when the phone gets totally drained when owners is asleep, alarm will still set off. With App Standby, it controls the impact of apps seldom used to prevent from battery drain.

Meanwhile, devices that have already received the Android 6.0 Marshmallow through OTA release include:

  • Google Nexus 5 (2013)
  • Google Nexus 6 (2014)
  • Google Nexus 7 (2013)
  • Google Nexus 9 (2014)
  • HTC One M8
  • Motorola Moto X Pure Edition

Marshmallow is slated to be released on several devices before 2015 comes to an end and will continue to hit a bunch on them early in 2016 onwards.
