One year after comedian Bill Cosby was accused of drugging and attempting to sexually assault supermodel Beverly Johnson in the 80's, Bill Cosby filed a counter-lawsuit against Beverly Johnson, accusing her of lying and defamation.
In a statement published on Twitter, Cosby's lawyer Monique Pressley revealed on Monday, December 21, that the lawsuit was brought against Johnson, 63, "for her false, malicious, opportunistic and defamatory accusations that Mr. Cosby drugged her." Cosby's lawsuit claims that Johnson conspired with the other women making accusations against him to revive her waning career and to help sell copies of her memoir, which contains a chapter about the alleged assault back in the 80's.
Cosby, 72, speaks through his lawyer, asking for "compensatory and punitive damages, a permanent injunction enjoining [the] defendant from continuing to publish her defamatory statements, and an injunction requiring [the] defendant to publically issue a statement and press release retracting and correcting her defamatory statements" and the removal of the chapter about Cosby in future copies of her memoir and removal of the chapter from unsold copies.
In other news, People reports that Cosby has also recently been sued for defamation by Katherine McKee, ex-girlfriend of Sammy Davis Jr, claiming that he raped her over dinner three years after her first appearance on the Bill Cosby Show in 1974. The statute of limitations has long since passed on the rape allegation, which is why both McKee and Johnson are suing Cosby for defamation.
To this day, there have been no charges against the comedian, and denies any of the claims being brought up against him. He is also suing seven of the other women that have also accused him of rape and/or sexual abuse that have surfaced over the past year, and his lawyers have recently filed for the dismissal of the lawsuit filed by Renita Hill, one of his accusers, back in October, according to WTAE.
