Neither injuries nor damages have been reported following three rockets launched from Southern Lebanon that hit Northern Israel. The attacks followed Hezbollah militant Samir Kuntar's death in Damascus during an airstrike.

According to the New York Times, three Katuysha rockets launched from Southern Lebanon hit Northern Israel on Sunday, although, no damages nor injuries have been reported. Lebanese authorities revealed that the rockets were fired from the Southern Lebanon port city of Tyre but spoke anonymously since they were not authorized to do the announcement.

The Israel army allegedly held their Lebanese counterpart responsible for the "attack" originating from the latter's territory, according to another report by the GVTC. They responded with "targeted artillery fire".

It was reported that the rocket fire followed tensions emanating from the border after a fighter of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah was killed in Syria during an air strike. Samir Kuntar of Hezbollah was infamous for one of the most brutal terrorist attacks in Israel's history. His death allegedly sparked motives for revenge against Israel.

Kuntar was a Lebanese Druze member of the Palestinian Liberation front who spent almost three decades in an Israeli prison after being convicted for the 1979 killing of an Israeli policeman as well as a father and his 4-year old daughter. He was eventually returned to Lebanon in a form of a prisoner exchange.

According to Reuters, an Israeli air strike in Damascus on the evening of December 19 killed Kuntar. Hezbollah sent hundreds of fighters to Syria in support of President Bashar al-Assad's cause against rebels and Kuntar was said to have been "martyred" in the residential district of Jaramana. Hezbollah and Syrian loyalist groups allegedly said that Kuntar's death will be avenged.

The three rockets that hit Northern Israel brought immediate retaliation, with Israel firing back artillery rounds into Southern Lebanon. It remains unclear whether the attacks were premeditated following Kuntar's demise.
