The crisis in strife-torn Burundi risks spiraling into a "catastrophe' for the country and the wider region, the African Union warned on Sunday, after the killing of a senior military official amid escalating unrest.
Burundi's embattled President Pierre Nkurunziza sacked his defense and foreign ministers on Monday, five days after surviving an attempted coup by generals opposed to his bid for a third term in office.
Burundi took 18 people suspected of involvement in a failed coup against President Pierre Nkurunziza to the high court on Saturday, relatives of some of the accused said.
