The suspect in the leakage of F1 racing superstar, Michael Schumacher's medical files was found dead through hanging in his cell, the Zurich police said, according to a report by The Independent.
The man, who was not named, had worked as a manager for the Swiss helicopter company, Rega, who arranged Schumacher's transfer in June from a hospital in France, to a medical facility in Switzerland to continue his recovery from the December 29 skiing accident, where Schumacher suffered severe head injuries.
The man was discovered by prison guards on the morning of August 6th as they brought him breakfast. The Independent also said that the suspect was due to appear at a court hearing before a judge. He was arrested recently in connection with violating a patient privacy and medical secrecy clause.
The Mirror also said that the French newspaper, Le Dauphine Libere reported in early July that leaked documents were being offered to European media for 60,000 Swiss Francs, and that it appeared to have originated from an IP address of a computer at the Zurich-based helicopter company.
In addition, Schumacher's manager, Sabina Kehm, threatened to sue any publication who will run the confidential medical records, The Independent added.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz confirmed that Schumacher will still retain his ambassadorship as the F1 racer is continuing his recovery. The Christian Post reported that speculation has circulated that Schumacher's condition might push Mercedes-Benz to reconsider its relationship with him.
The publication pointed out that Benz appointed Schumacher as its ambassador in April 2014, right after Schumacher's Grand Prix campaign. Dr. Dieter Zetsche, the Chairman of Daimler (the company that owns Mercedes-Benz) told the German publication Bild that, "We have given no thoughts to changing something in his contract."
Schumacher is currently being treated at the Grenoble Hospital in Switzerland close to his family home. The celebrated racer has woken up in June from a medically-induced coma following a brain hemorrhage operation. Medical experts have also said that while Schumacher has been making rapid development, he may never fully recover and will rely on the help of those around him, The Christian Post added.
