Star Wars: Battlefront 3 release date; Game release to tie-in with the premiere of Episode VII?

The seventh film installment of the epic space drama Star Wars: Episode VII won't be out until late next year, but fans of the film franchise have to wait a little longer before they get to play out their light saber-wielding dreams in the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront 3.

While the reports are unclear as to when the release date might be, Breathecast and The Epoch Times have reported that Electronic Arts confirmed that Battlefront 3 is slated for release in Summer 2015 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC; however, Attack of the Fanboy reported that the game might be released in late 2015 to coincide with the premiere of Episode VII.

Meanwhile, Attack of the Fanboy also reported that Game Developer, Daniel Cambrand confirmed during a new interview that Tatooine will be a location in Battlefront 3, as well as the forest planet of Endor, where audiences first met the Ewoks, and the ice planet of Hoth, which was in the first scene of Empire Strikes Back. In addition, the vehicles that accompany these worlds, such as the AT-AT, snow speeder and the regular speeder will be in the game.

The Epoch Times also noted that while the game is being hyped as the best Star Wars game that will be released, it said that in an analyst conference call after the release of EA's quarterly financial results, EA's Executive Vice President, Patrick Soderlund noted that Battlefront 3 will not be tied with Star Wars: Episode VII.

Soderlund said, "What we're building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe and not so much necessarily linked to the movies being made. And that's just because we wanted to make a game that celebrated the history of Star Wars."

He added, "Obviously there will be things in there that are somewhat tied to the new movie. I wouldn't say that we have a particular tie to the movie. Now, obviously we would prefer to be close to the movie, but I wouldn't say that we're directly tied to it."

In addition, EA Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment (DICE) General Manager, Karl-Magnus Troedsson told MCV UK, "Star Wars has a very special place in our hearts. So when the chance to work on the game came up, we grabbed it." He also added, "We are going to build the best Star Wars game ever created, if nothing else because Star Wars deserve it."
