A Colorado woman who was murdered in her garage had been receiving a barrage of ominous text messages, supposedly from an old college boyfriend who lived out of state.
However, prosecutors say that the threatening and lewd messages actually came from her husband, who was creating a "stalker" in the weeks leading up to her murder, the Associated Press reported.
In December 2023, Kristil Krug was found beaten and stabbed in her garage. She had been ambushed there after dropping off two of her children at school. Prosecutors contend that her husband, Daniel Krug, 44, had killed her. They also said that Kristil had begun to suspect that her husband was behind the mysterious messages she'd been receiving, the AP reported.
Krug's murder trial kicked off this week. Defense attorneys contend that there's no physical evidence tying him to the crime. Noting that no blood was found in his car, and his DNA was not found at the scene.
News 9 previously reported that police had tied the harassing text messages to Krug. Although the messages were purportedly from an out-of-state ex-boyfriend, investigators said the messages actually originated from Krug's workplace.
According to CBS News, many of the texts and emails were obscene. Some were creepy, and included pictures of her car while at the dentist office. Another showed Krug getting out of his car at work. The messages included:
- "i know how to satisfy u"
- "U dont belong in that big house. U belong with me."
- "Ill get rid of him and then we can be together."
- "Ill do it for us Help me get rid of him then we can be together. Just like u want."
- "U dont want him i know u want me."
Kristil Krug was disturbed enough by the harassment to install security cameras at the family's home, CBS reported. The cameras were turned off the day she was murdered.
