Five years after an Oklahoma mother of six was brutally murdered by her husband in front of their young children, her sister has a message for anyone in an abusive relationship.
"Please seek help from family and friends," Geneva Jordan's sister, Cassandra, said. "I promise you; they would love to help you rather than bury you."
Geneva Jordan's husband, Kendreen Banks, pleaded guilty to her killing to avoid the death penalty, News 9 reported. He received a life sentence without the possibility of parole on Tuesday.
Jordan, 29, was found beaten and stabbed to death in her Oklahoma City apartment on March 10, 2020, while her three children—one just a baby—were at home. Banks fled the state but was captured days later in Texas.
"This is such a horrible case for so many reasons, but particularly because three children were at home at the time their mother was violently murdered," Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Zemp Behenna said. "It has been a long five years for Geneva's kids and her family, and I'm relieved there is finally a resolution."
"I'm so glad he will never walk free," Cassandra said following Banks' sentencing.
She hopes others can learn from the tragedy suffered in her family. "You are enough," she wants people in abusive relationships to know. "They do not love you. Actions speak louder than words."
