A Maryland man was arrested after allegedly driving around with his mother's dead body in the back of an SUV, later found "talking in numbers" before police discovered the victim had been strangled.
The case began when a relative reported unusual behavior from 31-year-old Kevin Hyun Ahn on March 25 outside a Penn Township apartment complex in Pennsylvania, according to Lancaster Online.
Ahn, who had left a cryptic note on his mother's car dashboard mentioning a funeral and his mental distress, fled when confronted. Police later discovered the body of his 61-year-old mother, Hyun Ahn, inside the vehicle, partially covered with clothing and a Keurig coffee box.
Authorities charged Kevin Ahn with abuse of a corpse after the Lancaster County Coroner's Office ruled Hyun Ahn's death a homicide, citing strangulation and a traumatic brain injury as contributing factors.
The investigation remains ongoing, with officials working alongside Maryland law enforcement to determine whether additional charges, including homicide, will be filed.
Ahn is currently being held in Lancaster County Prison without bail, as officials cite concerns that he may not appear for his next court hearing on April 1.
