A 15-year-old Wisconsin boy says he decided to kill his mother after watching Netflix's "The Menendez Brothers" documentary.

Reed R. Gelinskey, of Franksville, Wisconsin, was sitting next to his mother on a couch watching the documentary while she was on her computer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The documentary recounts the highly publicized 1989 murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez by their sons, Eric and Lyle.

In court documents, prosecutors assert that Gelinskey, who faces first degree murder charges, came up with the plan to kill his parents during the part of the documentary that depicts Eric and Lyle using shotguns to kill their parents, according to the newspaper.

After his mother went upstairs, Gelinskey hid his sleeping medication, grabbed a steak knife and hid a dumbbell up his sleeve. He then told his mother he couldn't find his medication. His mother came back downstairs and began looking for the medication, and when her back was turned, he hit her in the head with the dumbbell, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

As he stabbed and beat her to death, she asked, "Why?" Gelinskey is reported to have responded "Pain."

"This was an extremely violent but planned offense. It's dangerous in its nature. His original plan was not just for the one victim, but two," Racine County District Attorney Patricia Hanson said in court Thursday, according to WISN-12.

The TV station reported that Gelinskey sent a friend messages on a social media app saying he had killed his mother and asking the friend to call the police. He also sent photos.

When police arrived, Gelinskey went to the front porch, dropped the knife he was holding, and said to police, "She is dead. And she is dead from what I did," the station quoted arresting documents.

Although he is alleged to have killed his mother after watching the documentary, Gelinskey told police that he had been depressed, had anxiety and had urges to kill his parents, the station reported. Before watching the documentary, he had planned to kill his father when he got home from work with a hammer but gave up on the plan when he couldn't find a hammer big enough, WISN-12 reported.

The station also reported that Gelinskey had taken nine pills of his brother's anxiety medication.
