Colorado police had to rappel into hard-to-reach terrain to recover a body that matched the description of a missing college student's.
Megan Trussell, 18, was last seen on Feb. 9 and was declared missing Feb. 13, NBC News reported. The body was found about a 14-minute drive from the Colorado University campus.
"We understand that this news is devastating to members of our campus community, and we also understand that you may have many more questions about the details of the announcement by the sheriff's office," the university stated in a press release.
"The loss of a member of our community impacts our campus. Our hearts go out to family, friends and community members of those that we lose. We also have support resources available in the coming days, weeks and months to support community members as they process grief," reads another passage of the release from the university.
Police said that the body was found at the 40-mile marker of Boulder Canyon. Agents did not reveal a potential cause of death in the case or discuss how the body ended up where it was.
"The decedent was found in hard-to-reach terrain, requiring a technical evacuation including the need to rappel," police stated.
