A Wyoming mother reportedly struggling with depression shot her four children Monday before turning the gun on herself, according to her grieving husband.
Three of the children died, and a fourth is n fighting for her life in the hospital, KTVQ reported. Tranyelle Harshman, 32, shot her 2-year-old daughters, Brooke and Jordan, in the head, killing them. She also shot and killed her 9-year-old daughter, Brailey. Another daughter, Olivia, age 7, was shot but survived. Harshman called 911 and then shot herself.
"I'm so angry. I don't even know how to explain this to you. I'm so angry with her for the decision that was made," her husband, Cliff Harshman, told the station.
The Harshman's had been married about five years. Olivia and Brailey were Cliff's stepdaughters. He told KTVQ that although angry, he also knew that his wife loved her daughters and had been struggling with mental health issues.
"People don't understand how mental illness isn't just a willpower thing. It's chemical imbalances in your brain. It's damaged pathways in your brain," Harshman told KTVQ. "She was an incredible mom and she loved those kids."
After shooting the children, Tranyelle Harshman called 911 and told dispatchers what she had done, where the children could be found and that she planned to shoot herself, police stated.
"The dispatchers pleaded with the female caller...to remain on the line until responding units arrived," the Big Horn County, Wyoming, Sheriff's Office stated. "The female caller stated multiple times that she could not do that and that it was too late."
