A Florida man has been arrested after police say he strangled his girlfriend and threw her lifeless body in the backyard of his home.
Dominique Domond, 20, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder in the death of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Janise Barthold, Local 10 reported. Police said they were called to the area around 9 p.m. Monday after Barthold's body was found unresponsive in a backyard.
The arrest report states that Domond admitted to police that he choked Barthold and then threw her body in the yard, according to Local 10.
Domond initially made conflicting statements, at one point claiming that Barthold and a male attacked him, and he was able to fight them off, pushing Barthold into the backyard, CBS News reported. However, later, Domond admitted choking Barthold.
"The defendant then confessed to investigators that he and the victim were involved in a physical altercation where he choked the victim with his bare hands," CBS News stated, quoting the arrest report. "The defendant then picked up the victims' lifeless body and disposed of it by throwing it in the rear yard of the residence."
At a court appearance Wednesday, Domond was denied bond.
"This is very sad. We have a situation involving the death of a 17-year-old female that was involved in an altercation with her boyfriend. Unfortunately, she is not with us anymore. Our thoughts go out to her family," Miami Dade Sheriff's Detective Luis Sierra told CBS News.
