Police in France are reviewing camera footage that shows a British man's final activities before he and his wife were found dead.

Andrew, 62, and Dawn Searle, 56, were found dead in rural France on Thursday, The Sun reported. The footage is from a convenience store and shows Andrew buying a chocolate bar and some lottery tickets.

"I just couldn't believe it when I heard the news. He and Dawn were regular customers. He would come in every day and buy Fortuna Blue cigarettes," shopkeeper Isabelle Palazy, 58, told The Sun. "That day, he came in just before I was closing, and he seemed perfectly happy; he was relaxed, and he chatted and bought some chocolate and two lottery tickets."

"Thinking that they were to die less than 24 hours later makes me go cold, I just can't believe it," Palazy told The Sun.

Searle was a former fraud investigator originally from Sussex, England, the Edinburgh News reported. Dawn Searle was a project manager who grew up in Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders.

The mayor of the town where the murders happened, Jean-Sebastien Orcibal, told French TV that the deaths were "clearly a homicide," the newspaper reported.

The Sun reported that an autopsy was planned for Monday.
