The family of a Chicago man was upstairs as he was tied up with duct tape, gagged with a sock and brutally beaten in January, according to People.

George Levin, 63, was found by his sister in the basement on Jan. 26 a few hours after he enjoyed dinner with the family upstairs, People reported, citing the criminal complaint.

Geiderwuin Bello Morales, 21, and Jefferson Ubilla-Delgado, 29, were arrested days later and charged with felony murder in Levin's death. Police said they met Levin through a dating app.

Levin had eaten dinner with his mother and sister before returning to the basement where he lived around 7 p.m.

About an hour later, his sister heard loud noises coming from the basement and went down to investigate.

She ran into Bello Morales who assured her Levin was OK. He said he would call her soon.

After she didn't hear back from Bello Morales, the sister returned to the basement and found Levin beaten, bound, gagged and partially exposed.

Levin was then taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"He was a good friend, willing to help with problems, big and small," a friend wrote in a comment on his online obituary.

"His loss is a loss not only to the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities but also to society as a whole," another friend wrote.
