A Seattle mom accused of beating her son to death allegedly caused over 1,100 injuries by hitting him with an extension cord.
Denaya Young, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder in the January death of her 14-year-old son. Young called 911 and told police she "went too far" during the hourlong beating of her son, King 5 reported.
The station quoted court documents that Young told police she was beating the child over not doing his chores and "got fed up with talking." She reportedly hit him with a cord and continued to do so even when he said he was getting dizzy.
The medical examiner reportedly found 1,172 fresh injuries, stating the child probably died from Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) or Distributive Shock.
"I cut his a** a little too hard. He was supposed to be doing chores, he didn't," KIRO-7 reported she told officers according to court documents. "He was supposed to do them last night. It's a recurring thing, and then I let my anger get the best of me with the extension cord."
The boy had gone to his mother's for a visit in August, KIRO-7 reported. But, Young did not return the child to his aunt who was his legal guardian.
Young's boyfriend was also questioned by police. King 5 reported that he told them, "I don't want to jump in, and then I'm getting jumped on, you feel? I'm not even trying to have that type of day." The man added that when "these situations" happen, his "best bet is to mind [his] business."
