the search for a California father who kidnapped his two daughters after killing their mother has come to an end at the southern border.
The incident triggered a desperate search for the two girls, Alana and Arya Maldonado, who are two and three years old, The Fresno Bee reported. Police issued an Amber Alert and began searching for the girls following the shooting death of their mother, 22-year-old Madeline Rose Cuevas.
The suspect, Jonathan Maldonado-Cruz, was the woman's ex-boyfriend and the father of the two children. Police told the newspaper that they eventually, police received a call from Maldonado-Cruz's mother that he wanted to turn himself in.
Police were also able to track Maldonado-Cruz through cell phone data. The Times of San Diego reported that detectives found the suspect and the children in Tijuana by tracking data from his cellphone and data from Cuevas' phone.
Maldonado-Cruz turned himself in at the U.S. border, where they were also able to recover the children safely, The Times of San Diego reported.
