Selena Gomez Responds to the Republican Politician Who Called for Her Deportation: 'Thanks For The Laugh and The Threat'

Selena Gomez responded on Tuesday to the Republican politician who called for her deportation: "Thanks for the laugh and the threat," Gomez told former Utah Senate candidate Sam Parker in a social media publication.

Gomez became engulfed in the back-and-forth after posting an Instagram video in which she expressed heartbreak over the planned mass deportation of undocumented immigrants under the Trump administration.

"I'm so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don't understand. I wish I could do something," she said through tears.

The former Senate candidate then responded to Gomez's video, which has since been deleted from her Instagram account. "Deport Selena Gomez," he said, a reference to the artist's family history, as her relatives crossed the border unlawfully in the 1970s before settling in the United States.

Gomez replied via an Instagram story. On a black background, the 32-year-old actress sarcastically responded to the Republican's remarks.

"Oh, Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh and the threat," the businesswoman wrote.

In addition to Parker, other social media users harshly criticized Gomez's video, accusing her of making a serious issue about herself. However, others came to her defense amid the backlash.

One who defended her response is American rapper Flavor Flav, who publicly supported the Mexican-American artist, praising her bravery and condemning the harassment she faced.

"Team Selena Gomez. Again. That woman is always so brave to share her truth,,, and so many are quick to bully her," the rapper commented on his official X account.

As if the media attention wasn't already overwhelming, Parker later shared Gomez's response on X, writing, "Selena Gomez replied to me," followed by a laughing emoji.

Although deporting Selena Gomez is not possible, considering she holds U.S. citizenship by birth, former President Donald Trump has been vocal about his intentions to end birthright citizenship, aiming to strip the status from children of undocumented immigrants born in the U.S.

To date, Trump's executive order targeting birthright citizenship has been blocked by federal judge John Coughenour, who called the measure "a blatantly unconstitutional order."
